Icelandic discount carrier Play Airlines is said to be pulling out of Canada with flights from Hamilton to Reykjavík stopping in April.

The airline offers four flights per week from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, using Reykjavik as a stopover for trips to Europe.

While there has been no comment from the carrier, travel industry reports say that the company’s updated summer schedule indicates that Play will exit the Canadian market.

The past couple of years have been difficult for low-cost airlines in Canada.

WestJet shuttered Swoop in 2023 and in 2024 Lynx Air filed for creditor protection. Canada Jetlines was declared bankrupt after less than two years in operation.

Play Airlines launched in Canada in the summer of 2023.
