Hundreds of people are injured and about 40 are presumed dead after a fire at a Swiss Alps bar during a New Year’s celebration.

Many were seriously wounded when the flames swept through the bar in Crans-Montana, Switzerland just a few hours after midnight.

Officials are beginning to investigate what started the blaze, but experts have not yet been able to enter the wreckage. Attorney general of Valais Canton Beatrice Pilloud says it is still too early to determine the cause of the fire.

A reception center and helpline has been established for impacted families.
