NDP leader Andrea Horwath is promising to eliminate corporate tax cuts if her party is elected this fall.

Speaking at the Canadian Union of Public Employees convention in Toronto, Horwath said she would restore the 14 percent corporate tax rate that the Liberals planned to reduce down to 10. “We can’t afford the corporate tax giveaways announced by the Liberals in 2009.

“You know Stephen Harper made it clear that Ottawa will continue to pour more money into corporate tax giveaways. We don’t need more of the same.

“Our corporate tax levels are far below our US competitors. We need to make people our priority.” She also emphasized that the plan would not apply to small businesses or manufacturing jobs, and would save the province $1.8 billion a year.
