Hundreds of firefighters gathered at Queen’s Park Crescent today for the Ontario Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.
The ceremony honoured 17 firefighters who lost their lives this year. Family and friends of the fallen firefighters also attended today’s ceremony.
Premier Kathleen Wynne spoke at the service, thanking them for all that they do.
“Being a firefighter is no ordinary job, it is a calling. That means it calls upon extraordinary men and women to put the safety of others above their own. When we need you, you are always there.”
The service included the laying of wreaths and a reading of the 17 names being added to the memorial. The total number of names now inscribed on the memorial is 591.
