Homicide investigation in Welland

Police say a man was killed in Welland on Saturday night.

The disturbance took place just before midnight outside of a home on Division Street in downtown Welland.

When officers arrived they found three people at the home, two with significant injuries.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene while the second victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the man responsible was found at the scene and placed under arrest.

33-year-old Joel Dreaver was been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and 2 counts of assaulting police.

It’s unclear what transpired as police declined several requests for comment and say detectives are not conducting interviews at this time.

Police are not saying how the people knew each other.

People who live in the area say they have seen a lot of police activity at the house in the past but in a news release, detectives say there’s no ongoing threat to the public.
