Hobby room fumes linked to fire in Hamilton east mountain home

A Sunday evening fire at a home in the east mountain area of Hamilton is believe to have started when a pilot lite ignited lacquer fumes in a basement hobby room.
Residents inside managed to escape when the blaze broke out about 6 p.m. at 51 Audrey St.
Hamilton Fire Department reported heavy smoke and fire in the basement of the one-storey home and called in multiple resources.
The Red Cross has been brought in to help the home’s residents find accommodations.
Damage to the house is estimated to be around $500,000.
