The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is the third and final film in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. The main cast all return for this finale including Martin Freeman, Ian Mckellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, and Orlando Bloom.
As he succumbs to dragon-sickness, the King Under the Mountain, Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), sacrifices friendship and honor in his search for the legendary Arkenstone. Unable to help Thorin see reason, Bilbo (Martin Freeman) is driven to make a desperate and dangerous choice, not knowing that even greater perils lie ahead. An ancient enemy has returned to Middle-earth. Sauron, the Dark Lord, has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide—unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends as five great armies go to war.
When the Hobbit trilogy was announced, a lot of pressure was put on Jackson to deliver a product that was just as epic as his Lord of the Rings trilogy. But the Kiwi filmmaker knew how to deal with those expectations. “…the only way you can respond to that is to be truthful to yourself as a filmmaker. With everything I’ve done in my career, I’ve tried to make films that I would enjoy as a moviegoer. To see the first two ‘Hobbit’ films be embraced by fans has been a joy, because we’re fans as well. But it’s also exciting to introduce a new generation to this world and this incredible mythology for the first time with the story where it all begins.”
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is rated PG.
