HHS to close Urgent Care Centre on Christmas, New Year’s Day

Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) is closing its Urgent Care Centre (UCC) on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day due to “physician pressures.”
The UCC located at 690 Main St. has been closed on Dec. 25 in previous years due to low patient volumes, said HHS in an email statement.
As a result of the ongoing health-care crisis, however, the closures will ensure that emergency departments can remain fully staffed to accommodate all urgent patients.

On the days the UCC is closed, the staff members will be reassigned to McMaster Children’s Hospital to help with a surge in pediatric patients.
“We recognize the impact that such difficult decisions may have on our patients and their families. We thank everyone for their patience and understanding,” HHS spokesperson Wendy Stewart said in the statement.
