HECFI cuts off money to attract events

Hamilton’s entertainment agency has canceled its subsidy fund used to lure events into the city.

HECFI used the money to compete for events like Lingerie Football and the Everything to do with Sex Show.

The head of the interim board recommended cancelling the annual $100,000 budget at today’s board meeting. John Hertel says in the future, HECFI should evaluate each potential event “independently” to see if it’s worth luring with cash.

It was also suggested that HECFI look to the private sector for help in beating out the competition for in-demand shows and events.
