Heartbreak for father as brain-dead mom delivers healthy baby

A 32 year old father from Victoria, B.C. says Saturday was the best and worst day of his life, as he welcomed the birth of his son, but said goodbye to his wife.

Family and friends say Robyn Benson was five months pregnant in late December, when she was admitted to hospital and declared brain dead. Doctors hoped her body would hold up until her baby boy could be delivered by caesarian section, but decided he should be delivered on Saturday.

Baby Iver was born weighing two pounds, 13 ounces. On Sunday Dylan said goodbye to his wife whom he has known for 16 years.

A fund for Baby Iver has been set up online and has surpassed $149,000.
