Health Canada says it received a submission from Moderna seeking authorization for the use of its Spikevax COVID-19 vaccine in children six-to-11-years-old.

In a statement, the department says it will prioritize the review of the submission and maintain “high scientific standards for safety, efficacy and quality.”

This is the second submission Health Canada received for the use of COVID-19 vaccine for younger age groups.

On Oct. 18, Health Canada received a submission from Pfizer-BioNTech to authorize the Comirnaty vaccine in children five-to-11-years-old. It says the submission is currently under review.

The department says it expects to receive data for different age groups for review in the coming months.
