It’s the kind of thing that leaves you shaking your head. A young Syrian refugee who already faces unimaginable challenges has now lost the one thing that gave him independence — his wheelchair.

Twenty-two-year-old Aladdin Elharbe’s family fled war-torn Syria, moving to Canada in search of a better life.

It was here in Hamilton where he found a sliver of hope, in the form of a highly-specialized wheelchair that allowed him to move freely and smile again.

But early Monday morning, that hope was stolen.

Neighbours have launched a GoFundMe campaign in an effort to help the family.
