Hamilton’s Veevers Estate to receive $100K accessibility upgrades

A historic estate owned by the City of Hamilton is set to receive $100 thousand worth of upgrades to make the building more accessible, all thanks to an investment from the federal government.

The investment is set to come from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) as part of the government’s Enabling Accessibility Fund.

Upgrades will see the installation of two accessible doors and a brand new accessible washroom to “ensure the building can be used by all visitors.”

The estate is currently home to Green Venture’s EcoHouse, a Hamilton-based non-profit group that provides environmental education and promotes sustainability.

The organization hopes to expand their reach and empower more community members to work towards a more green future.

“City spaces should be accessible to all. Thanks to this federal investment, we’re enhancing access at Veevers Estate so that Green Venture can empower more Hamiltonians to implement climate friendly practices in their own homes,” says Mayor Andrea Horwath of the project.

All renovation work is expected to be completed by 2024.
