A 30 ft tall, blue spruce tree was cut down at a home in Waterdown and taken to City Hall today. The family decided to donate it to the city to be used as a Christmas Tree.

The tree has been on their front lawn for decades but they say because of its size, they worried it would be a liability on their property.

“I think it’s going to make a beautiful Christmas tree. I think it is a very fitting end to this beautiful tree.” Homeowner.

The tree weighs about 7 000 pounds and now that it’s in the ground it’s about 30 feet tall.

Two other donated trees will be used for display at Gore Park and another in Dundas.
