A Hamilton author has won the 2011 Stephen Leacock medal.

Trevor Cole’s book “Practical Jean” was named the best humour book published in Canada in the past year.

The book follows suburban housewife Jean Horemarsh as she comes to terms with the loss of her mother.

Cole wins the medal, named for Canadian humorist Stephen Leacock, and 15-thousand dollars.

One of the authors he beat out was fellow Hamiltonian Steve Smith who wrote “How to do Everything” as his alter ego, Red Green.
