Hamilton woman charged with arson in massive weekend fire on King St.

Hamilton police have arrested and charged a 42-year-old woman with arson following a massive fire downtown that destroyed a four-storey commercial building.

The blaze started shortly after 5:45 a.m. inside the vacant building in the area of Bay St. and King St. West.

The fire scene shut down a portion of King St. for much of the weekend as emergency crews battled the blaze and investigated.

The cause of the fire was deemed suspicious. Police then arrested Melissa Selman of Hamilton on Tuesday.

Selman is facing two charges, including arson and break and enter – commit.
