Hamilton woman charged after alleged financial embezzlement from local non-profit

A 56-year-old Hamilton woman is facing multiple financial crimes charges after police allege she embezzled funds from a local non-profit organization.

Hamilton Police Financial Crimes Unit said they performed a forensic investigation into the alleged embezzlement that happened between the years of 2021 and 2023.

Detectives allege Viola Galamini embezzled approximately $72,000 from a fundraising account belonging to Rygiel Supports for Community Living.

Officers arrested Galamini on Jan. 22 and charged her with the following:

  • Criminal Breach of Trust
  • Fraud Over $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Use of a Forged Document

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court in April.
