Hamilton Urban Orchard Project

A Hamilton man has launched an Urban Orchard Project for the city in an effort to build local food resiliency in the community. Peter Ormand – Green Guy has been involved in projects like this for 10 years.

Each year they plant roughly 100 fruit trees in soil buckets and give them away to the community. Once the trees are in the buckets they will be dropped off at 12 depots and hubs where they’ll be distributed throughout the city.

He says he prefers to spend his money on these projects and give back to the community rather than using it for a vacation. The project was carried out through Facebook where people have reached out to Ormand to join and help.

He says there are two types of apple trees that they’re handing out today; Honey Crisp and Empire.
