Hamilton resident charged for importing firearms after cross-border probe

A man from Hamilton has been arrested Wednesday and charged with 19 offences as part of an investigation into the importing of firearms.
The Ontario Provincial Police says they began an investigation in March into the alleged importing of firearms and prohibited devices from the U.S. into Canada.
Local officers worked with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Homeland Security Investigations.
OPP investigators joined officers from police services in Toronto, Peel, Niagara and the Canada Border Services Agency to arrest 24-year-old Daniel Menezes in Burlington.
Menezes has been charged with 19 offences related to importing a firearm and for knowing that the importing or possessing of the firearm is unauthorized.
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at a Milton courthouse May 14.
