Hamilton Public Health says number of legionellosis cases has risen to 19

Hamilton Public Health is now reporting 19 cases of legionellosis in the East Hamilton and Stoney Creek area.

The city says the recent cases of legionellosis have presented symptoms such as a fever, chills, malaise, cough, shortness of breath and confusion.

All of the cases have resulted in hospitalizations.

The city is advising healthcare providers to “have a heightened awareness” of the infection for those living the east end of the city and Stoney Creek.

Health officials are still working to determine a cause and no common source has been found.
