Hamilton Police will begin their school zone safety campaign next week.

Police will focus on school bus safety and speeding in school zones as the new school year begins.

“Resources will be directed towards school zones and bus routes for the purpose of reducing or eliminating collisions and encouraging adherence to the basic rules of the road,” said police in a news release.

Drivers are being reminded to come to a complete stop when a school bus’ flashing lights and stop arm are activated.

Vehicles must remain stopped until the lights are off and the arm is no longer extended.

The fine for not stopping for a school bus is $490 and six demerit points.
