Hamilton police announced this afternoon that one of its beloved former mounted patrol horses has passed away.

Trooper, a 20-year-old Percheron cross gelding, began his service with the force in 2010 as one of the first four horses in its Mounted Patrol Unit.

“He faithfully served our community for many years before retiring early due to arthritis,” read a police statement.

Following his retirement, Trooper enjoyed life on a local farm.

“He will be deeply missed by all who worked alongside and cared for him,” said Hamilton police.
