Police officer unexpectedly helps deliver baby in Hamilton home

Two weeks ago a pregnant woman from Westdale was having contractions, but couldn’t get to the hospital in time, so a Hamilton police officer delivered her baby.
Phillipa Chong wasn’t worried and thought she had plenty of time to wake up her husband, pack a bag and get to St. Joseph’s Hospital but her baby had other plans.
Phillipa and her husband Adam realized they weren’t going to make it, so Adam called 911.
Const. Michael McLellan was just filling out paperwork in his cruiser when the call came over the radio. He got to the couple’s house just in time. Within minutes, Locklan Rhodes was born.
Officer McLellan had responded to about 5 other baby calls, but each time he arrived after the baby had already been delivered.
Locklan had to spend a week in hospital because of jaundice, but he’s now happy and healthy at home.
