Hamilton police officer charged with assault

A Hamilton police officer has been charged with assault after a video posted online showed the officer lunging at a woman.

Investigators say Const. Ian Millburn and another officer were responding to a landlord and tenant dispute in the neighbourhood of King St. E and Sherman Ave.

A camera outside the apartment captured the interaction.

The woman talks to the officer, who tells her “if you damage his property, you are going to be arrested.”

The officer can be heard asking the woman to stop talking and let him finish. She refuses.

After a back and forth, the officers turn to leave. The woman, who had been behind the door of the apartment, calls out to the officer who then lunges at the door as she shuts it.

Millburn has been charged with assault level one and has been placed on paid administrative duties where he’ll have no contact with the public.

His first court appearance is scheduled for July 13.
