Hamilton Police officer charged with sexual assault

Hamilton Police are providing few details about an officer who has been charged with six counts of sexual assault among other offences.

Thirty-four year old Adam Martini has only been with the service for four months, but has been suspended with pay.

Martini was arrested on Friday.

Police say one woman came forward with allegations last Tuesday, saying the offences took place between 2012 and 2013.

Hamilton Police did not want to comment on this case saying that the matter is before the courts.

Over the weekend, Hamilton Police responded to questions from the public on Twitter. An account appearing to be of a law office was questioning if the Martini was suspended without pay, to which police responded “In accordance with the Police Services Act, he has been suspended with pay.” Someone else asked about the officers background check before he was hired, the answer: “The allegations were brought forward on Tuesday and investigated. The individual was arrested late Friday afternoon.”

Martini’s has no previous charges. The only offence under his name was a speeding ticket issued years ago. Martini’s first court appearance is July 6th.
