Hamilton police looking for four people after a Thursday morning shooting on the Red Hill Valley Trail.
Officers were called to the area near Melvin Avenue and Talbot Street around 4 a.m. after receiving reports of gunshots.
Witnesses told investigators that they heard loud bangs but didn’t know exactly where they came from.
Police say they are now looking for four people they believe to be involved as they were seen leaving the wooded area around the time that the gunshots were heard. The people were said to have left in a black SUV going north on Talbot Street.
Detectives say that upon arriving at the area, they located multiple bullet casings on the path.
Officers say they believe up to 33 shots were fired.
“To us, [the two different types of bullets] suggests that there may have been two separate weapons used. We are currently searching the area for evidence of the crime [such as], clothing articles, foot impressions, victims and injuries,” says Hamilton police Const. Trevor McKenna.
