Hamilton police investigate death of man after city hall encampment fight

Hamilton police are investigating the death of a 33-year-old man who was found in life-threatening condition on a downtown street early Wednesday morning.
Investigators say the man was found bleeding and unconscious around 3 a.m. near MacNab and Jackson streets, close to an encampment near city hall.
In a press conference, Det. Sgt. Jason Cattle says detectives believe there was an altercation at the encampment before the man ran away and collapsed in front of YWCA Hamilton on MacNab Street.
Paramedics then transported him to hospital, where he later died of his injury.
Police say the cause of death is unknown at this time.
The name of the victim will not be released until all of his family members have been notified.
Community members can expect a heavy police presence in the area as they look for witnesses and video.
