Hamilton police arrest suspect in organized transport truck theft investigation

A Brampton man is facing multiple charges in connection with an organized transport truck theft investigation spanning Hamilton and other jurisdictions across southern Ontario.

Hamilton Police Service Break, Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery (BEAR) Unit led the investigation dubbed Project Long Haul, which specifically looked into the theft of commercial transport trucks.

Detectives say between January and May, the accused is alleged to have engaged in multiple and attempted thefts of Freightliner transport trucks from secured trucking facilities.

The total value of the stolen vehicles exceeds $1 million.

Police say the suspect is alleged to be a member of an organized criminal group involved in transport truck thefts throughout southern Ontario.

The suspect whom police did not name currently has multiple matters before the courts.
