Hamilton police arrest man for random assault in Gage Park

Hamilton police have arrested a man in connection with a random assault in Gage Park this morning.

Police say they were called to Gage Park at 1000 Main St. East at around 7:30 am after a report of a disturbance.

When they arrived, they found a 40-year-old woman and 83-year-old man had been randomly assaulted by a man that was not known to them while walking on a pathway west of the fountain.

Both were taken to hospital where their medical status is still being assessed.

No weapons were used.

A 43-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remains in custody.

Police expect assault-related charges to be laid.

The investigation is ongoing as detectives continue to determine a motive for the assault.
