Hamilton police arrest man after ambulance set ablaze Sunday morning

Hamilton police have arrested a 31-year-old man after an ambulance attending Hamilton General Hospital was set on fire.

Police say that on Sunday at around 6 a.m., a man walked up to the front seat of a parked ambulance and threw a bag inside.

Officers say that paramedics had just brought a patient into the hospital and were beginning their paperwork when they found the fire.

Video shared to a local Facebook group shows the ambulance quickly catching fire and causing significant damage.

The 31-year-old man accused of setting the fire was found nearby and was charged with one count of arson and three counts of failure to comply with a probation order, according to investigators.

Police say the fire was quickly put out when Hamilton Fire arrived but a significant amount of damage was already done to the ambulance.

Hamilton police’s Break and Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery (BEAR) unit is now investigating.
