Hamilton police have arrested two young people accused of stealing two vehicles from the Niagara region Monday morning.

The boys, aged 11 and 15, are accused of forcing their way into a detached garage and stealing a white Chevrolet Silverado and white Jeep Cherokee from a rural property in West Lincoln.

Later in the day, Hamilton police received multiple reports of a Jeep Cherokee being driven erratically in the area of Barton Street East and Gage Avenue North. Officers believe this to be one of the stolen vehicles.

Other reports described two young people acting suspiciously at a local gas station and at Eastgate Square. The boys allegedly appeared to be trying to access the gas tank of the vehicle and carrying BB-style handguns.

Police say they located the Jeep Cherokee by mid-afternoon, performing what they call a “high-risk stop” near Kentley Drive and Nash Road. The boys were then arrested.

Hamilton investigators also located identification believed to belong to a third-party victim and a small amount of marijuana.

The boys are facing the following charges:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Theft Over $5,000
  • Theft Under $5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking (x2)

The 11-year-old suspect has been released to a parent because of his age and the 15-year-old remains in custody pending a court appearance.
