Hamilton police arrest 56-year-old man after failed bank robbery

Hamilton police say they have arrested a man following an attempted bank robbery Tuesday morning in the downtown core.

Officers say they received a report of a bank robbery just after 9 a.m. in the area of King Street East and James Street.

CHCH News has contacted police to determine which bank was involved in the robbery.

They say a man had entered the business and patiently waited in line to speak with a teller.

Once the man had greeted the teller, he allegedly wielded an edged weapon and demanded money.

The man then quickly gave up and left without further incident.

Police say within minutes the man returned to the bank and confessed his wrongdoing to officers.

Investigators have charged the 56-year-old man from Hamilton for robbery.

The department has not disclosed the man’s name.
