A Hamilton police officer has been charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm.

The charge stems from an on-duty incident that happened in November of 2020.

Const. Ryan Cole was arrested on Wednesday, said a news release from the Special Investigations Unit.

The police watchdog was contacted with a complaint against the officer on Nov. 7 for an incident that happened the day before.

He has been released on an undertaking and is not allowed to communicate or associate with any witnesses to the incident. He is also not allowed to possess a firearm.

Cole is a six-year member of the Hamilton Police Service.

Hamilton police say he has been placed on administrative duties.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 3.
