Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath recovering at home after surgery

The City of Hamilton says Mayor Andrea Horwath is recovering at home after undergoing surgery.

On Tuesday afternoon, the mayor sustained multiple injuries after a fall on the stairs outside City Hall during extremely windy conditions.

Her office confirmed she underwent surgery for a broken wrist and was being assessed for additional injuries – including an elbow fracture and a leg injury. 

“Mayor Horwath and her office are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes from across the community,” the mayor’s office said in a statement.

As she rests and recovers, city officials said Horwath would not be attending in-person events for at least two weeks.
