Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) has taken ownership of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH) in Grimsby, after substantial completion Friday, with plans to open later in November.
The hospital is preparing to open in around 12 weeks, as HHS says work to open it will stay in alignment with the Ministry of Health’s post-construction planning process.
Bruce Squires, the Vice President of the Women’s and Children’s Health, said “this project is a major investment in the health of the West Niagara region.”
The new hospital will include 55 single-patient rooms, with the WLMH being the first new hospital in the province to have all single rooms.
It will also have six birthing suites, and sustainable design elements including LEED Silver certification, rooftop solar panels, EV charging stations and over 115 new trees planted on site.
“This modern building will give our staff and physicians the space, tools, and technology to continue delivering exceptional care to a growing community,” said Kelly Campbell, the Vice President of Corporate Services and Capital Development.
“It’s also more conducive to healing, offering space, comfort, and modern amenities to patients and their families during their stay.”
The hospital expects to take in new patients around Nov. 24.
