Hamilton doctors running outdoor vaccine clinics for children

Families are coming from all over the region to get their children vaccinated at an outdoor clinic in Hamilton.

The outdoor clinic is being run by Dr. Kerry Beal and Dr. Joe Oliver who believe there should be more outdoor vaccination clinics so that families feel safer going for a jab.

Dr. Beal says parents have been keeping their kids safe for two years and don’t want to risk exposing them to covid by taking them to get a shot at an indoor clinic. An outdoor clinic is more appealing to many families.

The two doctors have been hosting pop-up outdoor vaccine clinics for kids for a week. Health Canada approved the Moderna shot for babies and young children on July 14th.

Since the clinic is private, booking a shot is a bit unusual. Families simply have been sending Dr. Oliver messages on Twitter, “my direct messages on Twitter blew up.”

The location is private because the two doctors don’t want any trouble from anti-vax protesters. They say it’s been hard to keep up with demand and hope the city of Hamilton can run outdoor clinics on a larger scale.

The doctors say families have been coming from all over to get their children vaccinated.

Adults are also able to get their boosters at the clinic.
