A Hamilton councillor is expected to put forward a motion to temporarily extend the hours for liquor sales downtown during the Juno Awards next March.
Coun. Cameron Kroetsch will introduce the motion at a council meeting Wednesday following a request from the organizers of the Canadian music awards show.
The motion will apply to businesses in and around TD Coliseum, where the awards are being held, and to those hosting events for the awards.
However, it would exclude take-out purchases of alcoholic beverages, even if purchased with food.

Businesses will need to apply for the exemption if the motion is passed and will need to prove they meet the criteria.
Applicants will also be asked to stagger closures to avoid “spill-out.”
The Juno Awards ceremony will be held at the newly renovated TD Coliseum on March 29, 2026.
The motion would apply to all of Juno Week — the week leading up to the awards show — from March 26 to 29.
