A Hamilton charity that supports families with new babies has reopened in a bigger location on Barton Street East, and can now serve up to 450 babies each year.
“The Baby Depot” opened in October 2013 to help babies by donating a year’s worth of clothes and essential items including strollers, playpens and high chairs to families in need in Hamilton.
The organization has been closed for over two months while renovations were completed at it’s new location at 669 Barton St. East.
Families are referred through more than 30 social service agencies in Hamilton and Halton, and can come in and peruse for free to get everything they need.
“Last year we served 312 babies and being able to now expand we’re going to be able to help so many more,” said Maggie John, the executive director of The Baby Depot. “We’ve now extended the amount of appointments that we are able to offer as well as extend our inventory, which was kind of sitting in our basement because we didn’t have the space to showcase it all.”
John says they are always looking for donations.
