Halton school board addresses dress code after teacher’s controversial attire

The Halton District School Board (HDSB) discussed an upcoming dress code for staff at a board meeting after an Oakville high school teacher garnered international attention for wearing large prosthetic breasts.

The education director discussed the interim report on its “professionalism policy” but the chair, Curtis Ennis, offered few new details Wednesday night.

The policy will be presented to the board on March 1. At that point, the director of education says they will hear from community stakeholders and determine the next steps.

There is currently a “statutory freeze” in education, which means that employers can’t alter working conditions during a period where there’s no collective agreement.

Oakville Trafalgar High School has been the target of several bomb threats since September.

HDSB previously decided to not intervene in how the teacher presents themselves in class, citing protection under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
