Halton police say intimate partner violence is on the rise

Halton police say officers will attend more than 4,000 incidents of intimate partner violence (IPV) this year, if this trend continues.

Police say their officers fielded 343 calls regarding IPV compared to 279 calls in January 2020.

In the same time period, they made 83 IPV arrests compared to 51 in January 2020.

A total of 206 IPV-related charges were laid in January 2021 compared to 85 in January 2020. Halton Police say that’s an increase of 142 per cent.

Victims of intimate partner violence or sexual assault, as well as witnesses, are asked to contact Halton Regional Police.
