Halton police officer charged with assault with a weapon
A Halton police constable has been charged with assault with a weapon and mischief following an external investigation into an incident that took place on April 8, 2020.
Police say four officers responded to the area of Third Line and Dundas St. in Oakville for reports of a male loitering.
Video later surfaced on social media showing an officer pushing someone in the same area around the same time.
Constable Jason Mathers has been suspended with pay and is scheduled to appear virtually in court on March 9th.
Now that the criminal investigation has ended, Halton police say an internal disciplinary investigation into the actions of four officers will be completed.
