A Halton police officer and an Oakville firefighter tested positive for COVID-19. In a letter written by Police Chief Stephen Tanner “a sworn member who was not working in a public-facing role within the service, notified police last night that they are positive for the virus“. Chief Tanner says the employee has been off work since March 19th and is resting at home and recovering. Those who were in close proximity are now in contact with public health authorities.

The firefighter last worked in Oakville on March 19th and didn’t show symptoms until March 23rd. The Deputy Fire Chief says the firefighter is currently at home in Niagara and is self-isolating per direction from Niagara public health.
