Grocery chain Empire joins Scene+ loyalty program

Grocery giant Empire Company Ltd. has become one of the co-owners of the Scene Plus loyalty program.

The program is operated by Cineplex Inc. and Scotiabank.

The theatre operator and bank say the new ownership structure will allow Scene members to earn and redeem points at the grocer’s supermarkets.

That includes Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, I-G-A, and FreshCo.

Scene+ cardholders earn points when purchasing movie tickets from Cineplex, meals from Recipe Unlimited Corp. restaurants including Swiss Chalet and Harvey’s and when banking with Scotiabank.

The Scene+ rollout at Empire’s chains and through its Voila delivery service will be launched in supermarkets across the country by 2023.

Empire says its stores will allow shoppers to earn Air Miles until the Scene Plus program begins in their region.
