Grimsby man charged after accidently shooting himself

A Grimsby man is facing charges after he accidentally shot himself.

Niagara police say they were called on Saturday night around 6 p.m. to a home near Livingstone Avenue and Roberts Road.

When they arrived, a 37-year-old man was discovered at the scene with a non-life-threatening gunshot injury.

He was taken to a local hospital and released a short time later.

The following day, a search warrant of his home led police to several firearms from his property.

As a result, Justin Melo was arrested and is now facing the the following charges:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
