The man, publicly described as the kingpin of a criminal drug empire , has been found guilty of trafficking marijuana.

The verdict against Andre Gravelle and his co- accused was handed down in a Hamilton courthouse this afternoon.

51 year old Andre Gravelle faced five charges in connection with a scheme to transport and sell marijuana in Newfoundland.

Gravelle, who has a lengthy criminal record, was found guilty of trafficking marijuana but not guilty of four other charges.

Two co- accused, 57 year old Ronald Welch and 40 year old Bradley Huffman, were both found guilty of conspiring and trafficking marijuana and hash oil. Huffman was also convicted of possessing over 6 kilograms of cannabis resin.

Gravelle’s neice, who was raised as his sister, was found not guilty of two counts of obstructing justice.

Shortly after the verdicts were read, the crown asked that bail be revoked for both Gravelle and Welch, which triggered an angry response from Gravelle’s lawyer who said he was “taken aback” by the request.

That matter has been put over until the end of the month with sentencing scheduled for October 2nd.
