Gov’t reaches deal with cement company
The Ontario government has reached a deal with St. Marys Cement that will protect wetlands and the water supply in Flamborough.
The agreement ensures that no quarry will be built on the agricultural land, which covers 530 acres in Ontario’s greenbelt. The deal also means the province must maintain its conservation efforts for the future. The Ontario government has also agreed to pay St.Marys Cement $15 million for the costs the company has incurred on the project. The zoning responsibility for the lands has now been turned over to the city of Hamilton.
