(Update)

Demolition on Hamilton’s infamous City Motor Hotel is underway. Crews are on site, where they’ll tear down the hotel that’s become notorious for its seedier clientele. It’s been known for hookers, drug deals and the occasional shooting. The City of Hamilton expropriated the hotel, paying almost $2 million to the courts to compensate the owners and then issued a demolition permit last month.

Vincent Germanese from York Environmental Solutions commented: “In the first phase we went in removed all the doors, carpeting and windows, that’s the first phase. And the second phase is the environmental cleanup and now we’re on the third phase which is the actual demolition of the structure.”

City Councillor Sam Merulla led the fight to demolish the motel, saying the re-developed land will be a mix of public and private development.
