For No Good Reason is a documentary directed by Charlie Paul. The film chronicles the life of British cartoonist Ralph Steadman who is probably best known for his work with Hunter S. Thompson and his influence on Gonzo journalism. The film took 15 years to make and explores more than just Steadman’s friendship with Thompson. It also looks at his relationship with American novelist William S. Burroughs and features appearances from many influential figures in the art world, including Monty Python’s resident animator Terry Gilliam.

Steadman has been a driving force behind the idea of using art as a method to explore a greater meaning, whether it be political, emotional or anything in between. Director Charlie Paul really channeled his inner Steadman to provide a funny, visually dynamic piece about artistic ambition. The film also features modern day Gonzo fanboy, Johnny Depp, who’s had strong ties to Hunter S. Thompson and Ralph Steadman since he worked on 1998’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

For No Good Reason is rated 14A.
