Good Kill is a psychological war drama directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, In Time). The film premiered in competition at last year’s Venice Film Festival. Ethan Hawke stars with January Jones, Bruce Greenwood, Zoë Kravitz, and Jake Abel supporting.

The film tells the story of a Las Vegas fighter-pilot turned drone-pilot (Ethan Hawke), who fights the Taliban via remote control for half of his day, then goes home to his wife (January Jones) and kids in the suburbs for the other half. But the pilot is starting to question the mission. Is he creating more terrorists than he’s killing? Is he fighting a war without end? One soldier’s tale with epic implications.

Niccol wanted to explore the ramifications of drone technology in war and how it affects not only those on the receiving end of the firepower, but those pulling the trigger as well. “Set during the greatest escalation of drone strikes, it’s about the moral conflicts and dilemmas of using this new technology. But it’s very much a personal story. Tommy is becoming a casualty of a war he’s fighting from half a world away, all while in absolutely no danger. He is a pilot suffering from shell shock and grieving the death of those actually flying, while also feeling guilty that he’s so far away from the shells.”

Good Kill is rated 14A.
