Good Friday celebrations

Friday marks one of the most important days on the Christian calendar — Good Friday. Worshippers have been commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at masses and gatherings around the world.

Most church services on Good Friday took place between noon and 3 p.m. In many churches, the service involves a meditation based on the last words of Jesus on the cross, with hymns, prayers, and short sermons. In some countries, there are special Good Friday processions, or re-enactments of the crucifixion.

Closer to home, four churches had a joint service for Good Friday. A traditional, long walk followed.

The Church of the Resurrection, Holy Trinity, St. Stephen on the Mount and St. Michael’s Anglican walked 10 kilometers. Participants sang and even shared a couple of laughs during the walk.

The 10k walk started and ended at St. Michael’s with stops at the other participating churches led by a cross-bearer and clergy from the parishes.

All proceeds are going to support mission to seafarers.
